Nature Conservation

Protecting Biodiversity on Our Links Course

Strandhill Golf Club is proud to manage a course that exists within a unique and sensitive coastal environment. Located beside a designated Special Area of Conservation, the links landscape provides an important habitat for native grasses, wildlife, and coastal ecosystems.

Under the guidance of Jason Kelly, Course Manager, we are committed to preserving and enhancing this natural setting while maintaining the high quality links golf experience the course is known for. Our goal is to ensure golf and nature continue to thrive together for generations to come.

Environmental Stewardship

Working Towards Sustainable Golf

At Strandhill Golf Club we recognise the responsibility that comes with managing such a special landscape. The club is currently progressing towards GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf certification, an internationally recognised sustainability standard for golf facilities that promotes environmental protection, community engagement, and responsible resource management.

Sustainable Course Management

Enhancing the Natural Links Environment

Working alongside ecologist Alan Lauder, the club is implementing a comprehensive environmental management programme to support the flora, fauna, and ecosystems across the course. By reducing fertilizer use and encouraging native fine grasses to thrive, we are helping create a more resilient links environment while preserving the natural character of the course.

Green Initiatives

Reducing Our Environmental Impact

Sustainability is embedded across our facilities and operations. Initiatives include eco toilets on the course, photovoltaic solar panels, improved irrigation systems, and upgraded building insulation to reduce water and energy consumption. Our transition to an all electric buggy fleet has also helped reduce emissions while creating a quieter and more environmentally friendly experience for members and visitors.

Protecting Our Landscape

Supporting Wildlife and Biodiversity

Bordering a Special Area of Conservation means protecting this landscape is a shared responsibility. Through careful course management and ongoing environmental planning, Strandhill Golf Club continues to protect the habitats and biodiversity that make this coastal links such a special place to play and experience.

The Strandhill Experience

Strandhill is a wonderfully varied and memorable links that keeps you engaged from start to finish. Set against the Wild Atlantic Way with Knocknarea as its backdrop, the course combines strategy, quirk, and standout holes that stay with you long after the round. It plays bigger than its yardage, especially in the coastal wind, and delivers a truly authentic links experience
